Lou. Metro Council members want police staff changes delayed

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – Metro Council members have drafted a letter to Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Steve Conrad and Mayor Greg Fischer that requests the LMPD reorganization be delayed.

Fischer and Conrad announced there would be changes coming to the LMPD staff on Sept. 16.

Some of the changes included discontinuing the flex teams. In the letter the council members feel the changes could put Louisville neighborhoods at risk.

The letter says, “By attempting to address one problem, they will inadvertently create an even bigger one.”

In the letter, council members feel the Flex Platoon leads the way for a police division in addressing gun violence, gangs and drug dealers plaguing the Louisville community.
