Jury trial set for man accused of killing Ofc. Nick Rodman

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A jury trial has been scheduled for the Louisville man accused of killing a beloved officer of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Officer Nick Rodman died March 28 from injuries sustained during a police pursuit.

Wathaniel James Woods, 37, is charged with murder in Rodman’s death.

Woods trial is expected to begin Aug. 13, 2018.

He is accused of crashing his car into Officer Rodman’s police cruiser at an estimated 78 miles per hour.

Officers had been pursuing Woods’ vehicle in connection to a reported assault.

Investigators later determined Woods’ blood alcohol content was 0.26 at the time of the crash, more than three times the legal limit.

Police said Woods also had cocaine and opium in his system.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has yet to decide if it will seek the death penalty.
