Jeffersonville mayor swears in new officers to JPD

6 new officers join Jeffersonville PD

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) – Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore welcomed new officers to the Jeffersonville Police Department.

Mayor Moore swore in six new officers and thanked them for their service to the Jeffersonville community.

A girlfriend of one of the new officer's says incidents like that are scary but she's  thankful he wants to protect her and other families.

“It makes you count your blessings when they come home safe,” Kelsey Lakins, recruits' girlfriend, said. “That's the most important thing, we want them to come home to us. Their jobs are very dangerous, but we're glad they're out there protecting our streets and protecting our families.”

Of the six officers sworn in on Dec. 13, three previously worked for the Louisville Metro Police Department.

One worked for Clarksville and another in Madison, Ind. The sixth officer was a new applicant.
