Jeff Ruby pledges to buy 15,000 NKU students steak dinner if school beats UK

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Northern Kentucky University is celebrating their first time to the big dance and popular restaurateur Jeff Ruby has offered a challenge.

Ruby, known for his Jeff Ruby Steakhouses in Cincinnati, Louisville and Nashville, has made a pledge to buy a steak dinner for every undergraduate student if NKU beats the Kentucky Wildcats Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Ruby said he wanted to recognize their first year of Division I eligibility and the tournament achievement.

He said it could be very expensive but says it’s important to show support for local organizations in a statement.

Ruby said he is a fan of Kentucky and is a personal friend of Coach John Calipari and says he doesn’t believe it is a conflict of loyalties.

If NKU beats Kentucky, Ruby said the steak dinners for 15,000 college students may be a more than $1 million.

Northern Kentucky vs. Kentucky is expected to tip at 9:40 p.m. Friday.
