Clark Co. standoff ends in arrest of man with outstanding felony warrant

A SWAT team, Indiana State Police, and several other Southern Indiana agencies surrounded a home on Juniper Ridge Drive near Charlestown Ind. on Nov. 29.

CLARK.Co. Ind. (WHAS 11) -- The Jeffersonville Police Department said a man, identified as 33-year-old James Yulee Lindsey Lawson, was arrested following a standoff in Clark County, Ind. on Wednesday, Nov. 29. 

Lawson, according to the Jeffersonville Police Department, fled from police during an attempted traffic stop and led them on a chase that ended in a standoff near Charlestown.

The standoff happened in the 5900 block of Juniper Ridge Drive.

A SWAT team, the Indiana State Police, and several other southern Indiana agencies were stationed outside that residence. The standoff lasted in excess of two hours and law enforcement agencies tried to communicate with the man during that time. 

The call came in around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Police said an officer with the JPD attempted to stop  Lawson's vehicle due to a traffic infraction in the 1400 block of E. 10th Street in Jeffersonville, Ind. The officer knew Lawson had an outstanding felony warrant. Lawson did, at first, stop in the roadway but then fled and led police on a chase that lasted 20 minutes. Lawson exited his vehicle, ran, barricaded himself inside his residence on Juniper Ridge Court, according to police. 

Lawson was arrested and charged with the following charges: resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, possession of a legend drug or precursor, driving while suspended prior and possession of a controlled substance. 

Lawson is from Charlestown, Ind.
