Several RV's damaged by fire in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- It was a wild scene in southern Indiana when a stubborn fire involving mattresses and RV’s sent up black smoke that was seen all over Clarksville and parts of Louisville.

Around 4:30 p.m. on April 12, Clarksville fire responded to reports of a mattress fire near a parking lot where the Tom Stinnett RV company stores RV’s off Marriott Drive.

Clarksville Fire Chief Brandon Skaggs says hundreds of mattresses were on fire. Those flames started spreading to the nearby RV’s, some of which had propane tanks in them.

Seven to 10 RV’s were destroyed, but no people were injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
