Man, with Ind. ties, injured in Tenn. wildfires taken off ventilator

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – A man with New Albany, Ind. ties and who was injured in the Tennessee wildfires was taken off the ventilator and moved from ICU.

If all goes well Jared Summers and his two brothers will be discharged by Sunday.

The brothers’ parents, Jon and Janet Summers, are still missing after the family took a weekend getaway to celebrate the birthday of their twin sons before the Tennessee wildfires struck Gatlinburg.

The Summers brothers all grew up playing music locally.

Their former music teacher Mark Maxwell from Louisville is so impressed with them.

"And they were full of life there was something charismatic about them, everyone wanted to hang out with them, so anyway I took them up on stage and taught them how to play,” Maxwell said.

There is no word on the parents’ whereabouts.

The sons were apparently separated from their parents, once they escaped their cabin during the wildfires.
