ISP trooper hospitalized after being shot; suspect apprehended

A trooper was injured after a traffic stop went bad.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) – An Indiana State Police trooper has been transported to the hospital following a shooting Tuesday evening.


Officials say a Sellersburg trooper was conducting a traffic stop on West Park Place near S. Harlan Vogt Park when a suspect opened fire. The officer did return fire but it’s unclear if the suspect was injured by the officer or if the suspect shot himself.


The trooper was transported to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was conscious and alert when he was loaded into the ambulance, according to officials.


The suspect is in custody and was also sent to University Hospital but his condition is unknown.
