Heavy fire damages apartment complex in southwest Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Officials are investigating a fire that damaged multiple units of an apartment complex in southwest Jefferson County Tuesday.

Crews were called out to the Broadleaf Arms Apartments on Shanks Lane, just off Cane Run Road around 7:50 p.m.

Firefighters say upon arrival, there was heavy smoke and flames.

Twelve families were displaced by the fire and no one was injured.

The Lake Dreamland Fire Department says neighbors working together along with smoke detectors saved lives.

The cause of the fire was a skillet left on a stove.
