Gov. Bevin unveils drug treatment hotline

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- A new tool was unveiled Friday in the battle against the opioid epidemic: a drug treatment helpline.

The number is 833-8-KY-Help, but Governor Matt Bevin says its much more than a phone number.

"There's going to be a real person at the other end of the line," he says. "Somebody who understands the exact issue and will get them to the absolute ability that is available, connection to somebody that can help them. "

Last year, more than 1400 Kentuckians died from an opioid overdose.

The hotline was created in partnership with the Justice Cabinet and Operation UNITE. It is designed to connect people with treatment options and programs.

The hotline will be available December 1st.
