Golfers 'scramble' to help families for Thanksgiving

More than 200 golfers teed off at Quail Chase Golf Club today for the 21st Annual Turkey Shoot Golf Scramble.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – More than 200 golfers teed off at the Quail Chase Golf Club Sunday for the 21st Annual Turkey Shoot Golf Scramble.

The yearly event is hosted by Volunteers of America as part of their Hope for the Holidays campaign.

Each golfer donated a turkey weighing at least 20-pounds and 5 canned goods.

The food is then donated to families around Kentuckiana who can’t afford a Thanksgiving meal.

“Thanks for the generosity of the golfers over the past 21 years we have been able to provide a warm meal to families overcoming the challenges of addiction and homelessness. Because of them, folks are having a wonderful Thanksgiving,” Volunteers of America senior director Farrah Ferriell said.

The golfers donated more than 4,000 pounds of turkey and 1,000 canned goods.
