Coach resigns amid sex abuse indictment

LARUE CO., Ky. (WHAS11) A Larue County girls’ basketball coach stepped down from his job after he was indicted on a sex abuse charge Monday.

The allegations against Simon Ford came to light when a parent alerted the Larue County Middle School principal, Superintendent Sam Sanders said in an email to WHAS11.

When asked if there were multiple accusation against Ford, Sanders said the allegation that prompted the investigation came from one female player.

He said district officials contacted Kentucky State Police and conducted an internal investigation.

Sanders said Ford, who coached 7th and 8th grade girls as well as varsity, also resigned from his position as a classified employee.

Danielle Brown was named coach for the remainder of the 7th and 8th grade girls season, Sanders added.

Ford is scheduled to return to court on October 3.
