‘Gilmore Girls' free coffee at Please & Thank You

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (COURIER-JOURNAL) -- Fans of Lorelei and Rory Gilmore and their rapid-fire dialogue are in for a treat - the highly caffeinated type.

You probably already know that the long-running "Gilmore Girls" television show, which ended after seven seasons in 2007, returns Nov. 25 on Netflix.

The reboot will be a four-episode mini-series titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in The Life and will consist of four 90-minute episodes, with each show covering a season- as in winter, spring, summer and fall.

On Wednesday, Oct. 5, in advance of the highly anticipated series revival, Netflix is sponsoring a one-day conversion of about 250 cafes into the series’ most recognizable dining spot.

Luke's Diner will be replicated throughout the U.S. and Canada and serving up free 12-ounce cups of coffee - the favorite beverage of the show's leading ladies Lorelei and Rory, played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.

In Louisville, stop in for your free cup o' joe at Please & Thank You, 800 E Market St, and Please & Thank You, 2341 Frankfort Ave.

Brooke Vaughn, owner of Please & Thank You, says the coffee shops will offer free black coffee to the first 250 customers.  "We're playing a role and changing our culture a little bit in the morning," Vaughn said. "We don't have to do it too much because we're kind of small and quirky anyway."

The online streaming service will be providing the shops with "all the Luke’s Diner essentials" including branded aprons and T-shirts.

Vaughn had not watched the show, but after Netflix emailed the proposition, she began watching with her 8-year-old daughter. She had already watched Parenthood, which features Lauren Graham, so it was an easy transition.

"It's cute. I like it," Vaughn said.

Please & Thank You is asking people to post about their experience on social media - Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat - and will have a Snapchat filter for the event.

All locations participating nationwide are currently listed on a promotional website townofstarshollow.org.
