Former opponent reacts to allegations against state representative

Barely one year into his job, Dan Johnson of Bullitt County is now under fire to step away from that state house position. A 21-year-old woman claims Johnson molested her when she was 17-years-old. The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting first bro

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The boisterous Heart of Fire Church pastor turned Kentucky state representative, now facing serious allegations.

“I looked at it and thought, surely this is not true.  Then as I completed the whole report, I was rather disgusted,” Linda Belcher, Johnson’s former opponent, said.

It was just last November, Democrat Linda Belcher ran against Republican Dan Johnson for Kentucky's 49th House District, which covers some of Bullitt County.

“It's embarrassing because now Bullitt County is being recognized as having that type of individual represent them on the House floor,” Belcher said.

In a report from the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, an alleged victim has come forward.  She claims when she was 17 in 2012, Johnson stuck his tongue in her mouth, forced his hands down her pants, and penetrated her with his finger. Belcher says before the election, the same girl had approached her with similar information.

“I referred her to our chair and asked if maybe she could pass her information or give this young lady information of where she needed to go,” Belcher said.

According to the report, the alleged victim went to the police but no charges were filed.  A representative from Mayor Greg Fischer's office told WHAS, "The mayor has asked for an internal review. It's up to LMPD to determine whether to reopen the criminal investigation."  LMPD will not confirm if the case has been reopened.

Both House Democrats and Republicans released statements, calling for Johnson's resignation.  As for Belcher...

“So you think he should resign?” Ana Rivera asked.

“If there's enough information there and the Ethics Committee feels that way, yes,” Belcher said.

Representative Johnson has not yet responded to the allegations. He is expected to hold a press conference on Tuesday.
