LOUISVILLE, Ky.(WHAS 11)--The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is set to make an announcement on whether the University of Louisville will be taken off probation.
The school was placed on probation after Governor Matt Bevin erased the university's board of trustees and appointed hand-picked members to replace them.
Probation is the most serious public sanction imposed by SACS.
It can lead to loss of accreditation, which is needed for colleges to receive federal student loans and grants.
Loss of accreditation also causes academic degrees to lose value.
The announcement is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday.
