David Holton named Judge of the Year

Retired judge named Judge of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Just two months after stepping down from the bench, Judge David Holton was named the Louisville Bar Association's Judge of the Year.

Holton spent ten years as Jefferson County District Judge, becoming the first blind judge in Kentucky. In addition to that role, he also founded Veteran's Treatment Court in 2012.

At a ceremony on Dec.1, Holton said it was a much appreciated and very special day.

I always took the bench with the approach that I was here to serve the public and to keep the public trust first in mind. Always remember that it's a sacred position, the position of judge, and that again, to do your best every day and to treat people with respect,” Holton said.

When Holton officially retired in October, he said his next chapter includes private practice, advocacy and maybe even elected office.
