City purchases land for soccer stadium

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Hours before Louisville City FC won its first ever championship, they secured another big win. The city officially purchased three pieces of land in the Butchertown Neighborhood for the development of the team's new stadium district.
According to our partners at the Courier-Journal, that land cost Metro Government $17.4 million.

The city is expected to purchase a fourth piece of land soon, and the rest of the land will be purchased by the team.

The proposed stadium district site is 37 acres and located south of I-64 and 65.

The club owners hope to begin construction on the stadium by August.
