Card Nation ecstatic after Saturday's win

Card Nation sets record for home attendance

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS) - From ESPN's College GameDay to an absolutely packed Cardinal Stadium, Saturday's game had all of the makings of a perfect storm. It was that and so much more, with Louisville sweeping past Florida State, pulling off a major victory and leaving all of Card Nation beyond thrilled.

Many fans spilling out of the stadium stopped to talk to WHAS and had some excellent commentary. Here are some the highlights:

“It has been an absolutely great week. We love FSU football. We love U of L football. It has been phenomenal to come here," Shane and Shannon Gibson said.

The Gibsons surprised their three kids with tickets to the game. Shane is from Florida originally and a huge Florida State fan. He got a law degree from U of L though, so he said he's still happy about the game's ending.

“This is the worst butt-whipping I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s so great to have this happen. It’s just fantastic," Larry O'Brien said.

“A simple slaughter. Bobby Petrino pulls out the Louisville Slugger and beats the brakes off of Florida State. Back to Tallahassee with a Tallahassee headache. That’s all I can say," Lawrence Jordan said. “The Big Red machine is back and alive, and we up and running because we the greatest of all times.”

“This was so unexpected and super fun. I don’t have the words. This is an amazing game. Go Cards!" Dabney Corre said.

“It was incredible. Over the top. They just kept playing Muhammad Ali the Greatest. He said the Greatest state, the greatest city, Louisville, Kentucky, topped it off. They will never doubt Louisville again," Lasedar Lloyd said.

“My heart just went out. Lamar Jackson- Heisman Trophy winner, I’d give it to him if I had one, today," Hope Williams said.

“I didn’t have tickets, and he invited me. I was probably the most annoying fan next to him," Terrence Carter said.

“The spirit of Cassius Clay is very alive today, and we are on a collision course with the national championship," J.K. McKnight said.
