Barbourville, Ky. police dept. issues warning on clown activity

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – The Barbourville Police Department issued a warning to its Facebook followers on Tuesday, Sept. 20, about the recent “clown complaints” they have been receiving.

The department says due to media coverage and social media posts on clown sightings and pranks risk to the public is a concern.

The warning says dressing as a clown and appearing in public creates a dangerous situation for the one dressing as a clown and the rest of the public. They ask the public to refrain from any of that unnecessary activity.

They also say reporting false clown incidents to police is illegal and that person will be charged and arrested.

This warning comes after a woman claimed on Facebook she saw a clown near KY 192 in London, Ky.

Barbourville is nearly 170 miles southwest of Louisville.
