WISH GRANTED: Dying teen to meet Lamar Jackson

LOUISVILLE, Ky – Amzie Smith, a 17-year-old junior at Ballard High, will get to check another goal off her bucket list thanks to the University of Louisville.

wHAS11 first told you on Tuesday how Smith, who is battling stage 4 liver cancer, dreamed of getting to meet standout University of Louisville Quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Through the power of social media that dream will soon become a reality.

Jackson, along with members of the University of Louisville athletic department, heard of Smith’s fight online and worked diligently to grant her wish.

University of Louisville athletic department officials have confirmed that Smith and Jackson will meet Friday prior to the Cards matchup against Duke.

Smith will greet Jackson, and the rest of the Cardinals football team, as they begin the Card March into Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

The teen was unsure if she would be able to meet Jackson after doctors told her she may only have weeks to live.
