LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) – Work on the Louisville Extreme Park will begin this week due to the Ohio River Bridges Project.

The contractor for the Extreme Park project, MAC Construction, will be mobilizing equipment and putting temporary fences in place to mark off the construction site. The part of the park that will be demolished will be fenced off as well.

One-third of the park will be demolished and reconstructed on an adjacent property to make room for flyover ramps that will support the new Louisville-Southern Indiana downtown bridge.

Demolition will begin next week. Construction on the replacement section of the park is expected to begin in May; the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2014.

The sections of the park that are not affected by construction will remain open during most of the demolition and reconstruction period. Depending on construction needs and schedule, brief temporary closures of parts of the Extreme Park or the whole park will occur from time to time for public safety reasons.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has provided funding to Metro Government for this demolition and functional replacement project.
