BULLITT CO., Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Bullitt County woman got hurt, trying to protect herself during a home invasion. The home invasion occurred around 4 a.m. Monday off Smith Lane in Hillview in Bullitt County.

But it's not the first time this woman's home has been targeted.

"I came upstairs and the whole street was covered with police officers," a neighbor said.

This neighbor did not want to be identified but lives on the very street where a brazen home invasion took place. She says what happened to Charlyne Slusher has everyone here scared.

"Anytime there is a break in in your neighborhood, you get worried," a neighbor said.

Bullitt County Sheriff's Department says 43-year-old Slusher heard something out her back door, startled she grabbed her gun just in case. Outside she found an intruder trying to get in.

"They got in a confrontation and he was able to retrieve the firearm away from her. She was shot in the left shoulder area," Scotty McGaha, Bullitt County Sheriff's Office, said.

The intruder ran away, leaving the weapon behind. Hillview police responded to two other home invasions at this home in June. During those invasions, jewelry and prescription drugs were taken. Whether this is related remains to be seen.

"I would say we are following up on all and every lead," Scotty McGaha, Bullitt County Sheriff's Office, said.

Slusher remains in University Hospital. The suspect has not yet been caught.
