LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Corporal David Thompson answered WHAS11's knock at his front door this afternoon with orders to leave his property.  The University of Kentucky fired the six-year veteran of the campus police force after a video of him pushing a student and searching his dorm without a warrant went viral.

The video shows what happened inside the room where freshman Graham Gaddis recorded his run-in with campus police, who were trying to search his dorm for alcohol.

Just across the hall that night Jacob Stogsdill had locked himself out of his room. He watched what he says was 30 minutes of arguing between Gaddis and four officer outside his door.

“The main guy who pushed the door just lost it. I watched him. He completely turned around and went and slammed the door open”, Stogsdill said.

Thompson was actually fired for pushing the freshman, not for searching his room without a warrant.  The university would not clarify if that too would have been cause for termination. Stogsdill echoed the general consensus of students who spoke with WHAS11.

“As a professional police officer I feel like he should have been able to handle a college student without having to push him”, he told us.

Students who talked say Gaddis' video has clarified student rights but they do not agree with how he did it.
