The first snow flakes of the season fell across Kentuckiana Monday morning, causing many traffic problems and school delays.

The snow began to fall around 4 a.m. and there has not been a lot of accumulation.  However, there has been enough to prompt several southern Indiana and Kentucky schools to delay start times.

Jefferson County Public Schools are open and on schedule.

The accumulation has also caused some major problems on the roadways.

Dozens of accidents have been reported in the Kentuckiana area, many of the on the Gene Snyder Freeway.

A Louisville Metro Police officer was transported to University Hospital after he was working an accident on Interstate 265 at New Cut Road.  The officer was outside his vehicle when he was struck by a car.  The officer is reported to be in fair condition but his leg was broken in the accident.

It has also been reported that two children were killed on Highway 144 southwest of Brandenburg, Ky.  No details have been released and WHAS11 News does have a crew on the way to the scene.
