(WHAS11) -- The suspected serial killer in Southern Indiana will stand trial after a judge ruled he's mentally competent to move forward in the case.
A psychologist and a psychiatrist both evaluated William Clyde Gibson for a total of three hours and both testified he's competent to stand trial.
Gibson is charged with murdering three women in the past decade. Each case will be tried individually.
In court on Friday it was revealed Gibson has tried to kill himself since being in prison. Something one of the victim's family members says is not surprising.
"It shows me that he knows he did something very terrible to my mother and to Stephanie Kirk. And I think that looking at my eyes, that reminds him each and every time. And that's what I want," Mike Whitis, a victim’s son, said.
Gibson is set to stand trial for Christine Whitis' murder beginning on Feb. 18.
The trial will be in Floyd County but jurors will be brought in from Dearborn County, near Cincinnati.
