(WHAS 11)--A local group called Paint is trying to beautify West Louisville’s Parkland neighborhood.

Residents are helping transform a vacant two story apartment building on Greenwood Avenue into a work of art.

They are creating a 12 foot tall phoenix statue with a 16 foot wingspan all made from thousands of recycled plastic bottles and bed sheets. They are calling it Parkland Rising.

Students from the West End School have been helping create the project. You can help too by showing up from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. at the Parkland Boys and Girls Club.
