LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Wayside Christian Mission gets the go ahead to expand its men's shelter at Jefferson and Jackson Streets.

The shelter is being forced out of its current spot because of construction on the new downtown bridge.

Under the plan approved by the Metro Board of Zoning Adjustment the new Wayside facility will nearly double the current capacity from 360 to 640.

Critics say the shelter could negatively impact the expanding NuLu district.
