LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – About 50 residents in the Valley Station neighborhood were without water Thursday evening after an eight inch water main burst. It also created a huge mess and damaged homes and yards in the area. Residents think the mess could easily have been avoided.
Judy Cozee says she came home around 4:30 p.m. and there was a little spurt of water coming from under the ground. She says her neighbor was already on the line with Louisville Water Company. But, within 20 minutes, she and her husband watched that small spurt turn into a gushing fountain.
Across the street, Carol Goodlett had no choice but to sit, helpless, on her front porch watching the water build and wash away parts of her yard and flood her garage. She says everything inside is destroyed and covered in mud. She says it took three hours for someone to come turn the water off. She believes if they had come when she called, all the damage could have been avoided.
Kelly Dearing with the Louisville Water Company says similar breaks are common and they deal with them on a daily basis. She says the claims department and possibly insurance will deal with the damage.
