LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- On April 3, 40 years ago, Louisville was a city in chaos.

An F-4 tornado cut a path through the city during the late afternoon hours.

It was just part of a massive outbreak of tornados across the eastern United States.

In Louisville, homes were destroyed, landmarks were battered and lives were disrupted.

WHAS radio and TV followed the storm with remarkable coverage considering the limited technology of the day.

It started with the voice of anchor Ken Rowland. Click the video to see more about WHAS’s coverage from WHAS11’s Gary Roedemeier.
