WASHINGTON CO., Ind. (WHAS11) -- Police have arrested a man, Gilbert Mullis, after a fatal accident at the intersection of State Road 56 E. and Shields Road in Southern Indiana on Christmas Eve.
Gilbert Mullis is charged with OWI causing death, OWI with a prior, OWI, reckless homicide, criminal recklessness, false informing. His bond is set at $100,000 cash.
According to a press release, the Washington Co. Sheriff's Department received a call reporting a possible intoxicated driver east bound on State Road 56 East, officers were dispatched. A short time later, the Washington Co. Sheriff's Department said they received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Shields Road and State Road 56 East.
At the scene, officers said they found a black 1993 GMC Jimmy that was driven by Gilbert L. Mullis (11/17/1975) of Bloomington, Ind. Also involved was a 2008 silver KIA, the driver of the KIA, Dean Shepherd of Salem, was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Rondale Brishaber. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
