LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The woman who was found dead inside a burning home on Sunday morning did not die as a result of the fire.
LMPD responded to a fire at 9:00 a.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Cypress Street. Following an autopsy conducted Monday it was determined that Vernice Aniton was actually the victim of foul play.
Alonzo Hearn lives near the home and knew Aniton. He said he heard several loud booms before the blaze, but never saw anything suspicious.
“No, she never acted like she was in danger or being threatened or anything,” Hearn said.
Aniton’s brother told WHAS11 that his sister complained of trouble with her furnace and they thought maybe that was a cause.
LMPD's Homicide Unit is conducting a joint investigation with the Arson Unit. There are no suspects at this time.
