LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Louisville Gas and Electric Co. and Kentucky Utilities Co. say several customers have been targeted by scam artists claiming to be an employee and asking for bill payment.

The companies say the person making the request then threatens to disconnect electric or natural gas service if the customer doesn't cooperate.

LG&E and KU have notified law enforcement of the scam and say apparently only a few customers have been targeted.

The companies advise customers to call if they receive a phone call, email or letter that is suspicious, and they say they don't call and ask for credit or debit card numbers or other personal information. Anyone who has been affected by the scam should call local police.
