LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- For years and years, people have used nature to help predict the upcoming winter weather and there are more than a thousand winter folklores out there.

WHAS11 First Alert StormTeam meteorologist Kristin Walls takes a look at some of the folklore for the Louisville area and found three that predict a snowy winter and two that imply a mild one.

Of course, there is not much scientific basis for a long range forecast, but she said it was fun and not to be taken too seriously.
