LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Urban Coalition of Louisville rallied in Downtown Louisville Monday morning to protest the government shutdown.

With just 10 days left until the government reaches the debt ceiling, the group organized a rally. Protesters gathered in Freon of the Federal Building at 6th and Martin Luther King Jr. Place.

"Our country is a mess, we're not able to defend ourselves. All of our defense is on a layoff and this is dangerous, this is dangerous for our country," one protester said.

The group hasn't said if they will schedule another protest.

House Speaker John Boehner said the house will not pass measures to reopen the government or to increase the debt ceiling without first speaking with the president.
