LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville guard Kevin Ware says he was just as surprised as anyone when he took the basketball court last week for the first time since the NCAA tournament.
He spoke exclusively with ABC’s Good Morning America this weekend about his comeback.
“The basketball ghost jumped out of my body I would say because I haven’t played in a game in about 220 days. When he called my name I was really happy. The applause I got was motivation for me,” Ware said.
Ware told ABC reporter Gio Benitez that he’s proud every day of his recovery from that gruesome leg injury 7 months ago. He also says he’s never seen the video of his bad fall during the Elite Eight round of the tournament.
“I kind of feel like mentally it would put me at a different state. I told myself when I was done playing basketball I’ll look at it then but I can’t look at it now,” he said.
Ware played during Louisville’s exhibition game against Pikeville last week but did not play in the season opener Saturday against the College of Charleston.
Coach Rick Pitino says he’s still at least two weeks away from being completely ready to play.
