THORNTON'S, THE LOUISVILLE-BASED GAS AND CONVENIENCE STORE WANTS TO FUEL THE MINDS OF LOUISVILLE STUDENT ATHLETES. TODAY, IT PLEDGED 3 MILLION DOLLARS TO BE USED AS A MATCHING GIFT, TOWARDS THE THORNTON'S ACADEMIC CENTER.
>>Tony Harris/Thornton's President, "The athletic achievements are pretty obvious. the academic achievements, not so much to everyone but the job that Tom and his coaches and his staff all that they';ve done to raise the bar on academics to prepare the student athletes for what lies ahead is life after athletics is really just perfectly aligned with the way we believe in setting our community up for the future"
U OF L ANNOUNCED THE CREATION OF THE NEW ACADEMIC CENTER 2 YEARS AGO. THE CENTER, WHICH WILL BE LOCATED AT THE SOUTH END OF PAPA JOHN'S CARDINAL STADIUM, WILL BE HOME TO ALL ACADEMIC OPERTIONS FOR THE ENTIRE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT.
>>Matt Thornton/Thorntons CEO "When we learned about the Thornton's academic Center we were there. We were there instantly not only could we see the vision but we really liked the idea of helping 750 student athletes have a place to go, one spot, not running all over campus."
THE CENTER WILL HAVE AREAS FOR TUTORING, LABS, CLASSROOM SPACES AS WELL AS OFFICE AREAS. IT WILL SERVE THE CARDINALS' 23 SPORTS AND EVERY ATHLETE EVERYDAY. IT'S JUST THE LATEST ACHIEVEMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY.
