LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A big step Thursday for a Ukrainian woman trying to reclaim her life and her face.
Lessya will undergo free facial reconstruction surgery here in Louisville after he face was disfigured by a doctor in her native country misdiagnosed her with cancer.
Lessya's cousin, who lives in Louisville, brought here here and the surgery is being performed by the University of Louisville Physicians.
The first step is for plastic surgeons to place a tissue expander beneath her skin.
Doctors will post before and after photos, as well as updates of the surgery on Twitter #hope4lessya and Facebook.
