(WHAS11) The death toll from the monster tornadoes is now over 300 and hundreds are still missing. There are 36confirmed dead in Tuscaloosa; the state’s emergency management says it was the hardest hit by the tornados.
A Louisville woman who attends the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa is back home and sharing some video with us that she never in her life believed she would ever see. Alex Adams escaped the deadly tornado that has now taken at least 318 lives across eight states.
Adams in now home with her family in Louisville and reliving what she thought would be the last moments of her life. As soon as tornados were spotted in Tuscaloosa and heading toward the campus at the University of Alabama, all of the students in her dorm went to the basement.
“I thought the building was going to come crushing down on top of us,” said Adams. Adams’ dorm was left standing, but the tornados wiped out other student housing and restaurants.
The university is still assessing the damage and hasn’t released a death toll, but Adams says she knows some students who didn’t make it. “There were 2 students on campus that died,” said Adams.
All University of Alabama students were told to leave the campus and school will not start back again until the Fall Semester.
