LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- University Hospital in Louisville and the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington have rejected requests to perform a hip replacement surgery for a death row inmate who could be executed in 2013.
56-year-old Robert Foley is on death row after being convicted of killing six people in Eastern Kentucky in 1989 and 1991.
After more than a year of efforts to find a facility to perform the $56,000 surgery both hospitals turned down the state.
Foley is one of two Kentucky death row inmates whose executions are waiting to be scheduled. The state is trying to restart executions after a nearly four-year delay.
