LOUISVILLE, KY (WHAS11) -- Before today’s sports heroes were tweeted, liked or tagged, they received most of their fan admiration through letters. Fan mail was an important means of conveying hopes, dreams and love for a beloved team or favorite player. The written word of encouragement provided a tangible connection between the folks that filled the stands or watched on TV to the athletes.

The Louisville Postal Service hopes to bring back some nostalgia this Valentine’s Day by asking loyal sports fans to express their love for their team once again.

“There is nothing more personal than receiving a hand-written letter,” said Kentuckiana District Marketing Manager Alisa Zanetti. “And we can’t think of a better way for Cards and Cats fans to show their devotion than through a love letter.”

USPS is encouraging fans to submit a hand-written letter to express just how much they love their respective teams. Two winning letters – a Cats and Cards –will be chosen and showcased. “We hope to see fans of both sides charged up for this unique challenge,” said Zanetti. “Bring on the love and let the bragging-writes begin!”

Entries must be postmarked no later than Feb. 12 and should be mailed, preferably with a Sealed With Love Forever stamp, to:

Alisa Zanetti
District Marketing Manager
P.O. Box 31611
Louisville, KY 40231-9611

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
