LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A University of Louisville chemistry professor has been awarded a 2014 Fulbright Distinguished Chair, which he will use to travel to Sao Paulo University in Brazil.
Professor G.B. Hammond, who is receiving his second Fulbright award, plans to conduct lectures and collaborate with colleagues while in Brazil.
U of L says the award is among the program's most prestigious and is usually given to fewer than 50 educators a year.
Hammond wants to work toward collaborative efforts between Latin American and U.S. educators and researchers.
Hammond's work involving fluorine has earned accolades. Fluorine is an element used in industrial applications.
