Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of Jan. 27: Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 during the week of January 27.

Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting the week of Jan. 27 will be:

o    Monday, January 27, at about 7:30 a.m.

Surface Blasting:  Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, does require traffic stops. Surface blasting also takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard. In the event of unfavorable weather or other unforeseen activities, blast times may occasionally change.

NOTE: A message will be posted on the project website at www.kyinbridges.com Thursday of each week regarding the anticipated blasting schedule for the following week. Pre-blast surveys are ongoing; no blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence.

Indiana: Port Road traffic shifted west: Port Road traffic will be shifted west to the current southbound lanes in the vicinity of Centennial Blvd. and the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange. There will be no closures, merely a shift in the traffic lanes.  Even during "normal" rush-hour conditions, traffic can get congested in this area; and there is a four-way stop at Port Road & Middle Road that often gets backed up during a typical rush hour.  Therefore, with this lane shift, motorists should anticipate delays and allow at least 10 extra minutes during rush hour commutes. This arrangement will last about a year.

Indiana: Westbound lanes of SR 265 in vicinity of SR 62 interchange shifted Jan. 2014 - March 2014: The current westbound lanes of SR 265 will be shifted with traffic utilizing newly constructed crossovers lanes enabling westbound travelers to use a portion of the eastbound lanes.  All eastbound and westbound traffic will use the current eastbound lanes.

Indiana: Ramp from northbound SR 62 to westbound SR 265 to change Jan. 2014 - March 2014: There will be a slight detour for motorists going from northbound SR 62 to westbound SR 265.  They will still take the same exit ramp off of SR 62, but once they exit they will notice a sign the redirects them slightly.  At the end of this ramp, they can enter SR 265 with the assistance of a traffic light.

Indiana: Blasting schedule for week of Jan. 27: Blasting to prepare for the East End Crossing is scheduled to occur in Indiana between the Ohio River and Salem Road, just east of Utica. There will not be any traffic stops for this blast.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

o    Monday, January 27, at about 4 p.m.
o    Tuesday, January 28, at about 4 p.m.
o    Wednesday, January 29, at about 4 p.m.
o    Thursday, January 30, at about 4 p.m.
o    Friday, January 31, at about 4 p.m.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky: Lane switch on Springdale Road beginning Jan. 20: Traffic on current Springdale Road alignment will be shifted onto a new alignment at the intersection of Wolf Pen Branch Road via temporary pavement beginning Jan. 20.

Kentucky: Lane switch on KY 841/Gene Snyder Freeway beginning Dec. 17: Southbound KY 841/Gene Snyder Freeway will be shifted east just north of the I-71 interchange and shifted back to its normal route after the interchange via temporary pavement beginning Dec. 17. This arrangement will likely continue for about nine months.

Kentucky: Lane switch on KY 841/Gene Snyder Freeway beginning Dec. 5: Southbound KY 841/Gene Snyder Freeway will be shifted east just north of the I-71 interchange and shifted back to its normal route after the interchange via temporary pavement beginning Dec. 5. This arrangement will likely continue for about nine months.

Kentucky: Lane closures on KY 841/Gene Snyder Freeway beginning Oct. 17: KY 841/Gene Snyder Freeway in Kentucky became one lane northbound and one lane southbound from U.S. 42 all the way to the I-71 interchange beginning October 17. This arrangement will likely continue through the duration of the East End Crossing project.

Indiana: Upper River Road closed beginning Dec. 18: Upper River Road northbound and southbound in Indiana was closed just north of Utica beginning Dec. 18 for East End Crossing construction activities. This arrangement will likely continue for the duration of the construction project. Flaggers will be present to temporarily stop and guide traffic through this area.

In the event of unfavorable weather or other unforeseen activities, these schedules may change.  If any such changes occur, they will be posted on www.kyinbridges.com, on Twitter @eastendcrossing and at www.facebook.com/ohiorivereastendcrossing.
