LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- After being closed for more than a month, the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge is back open in time for the Friday morning commute.

Crews removed the barricades around 3:15 a.m. and the first cars crossed the bridge around 3:45 a.m.

The bridge was shut down July 8 so Walsh Construction could rework the Indiana approach, as well as the entrance and exit ramps for US 31.

Drivers heading north on the bridge will have to detour onto Court Avenue if they want to access Interstate 65 north and take the 10th Street ramp. The changes in the traffic pattern are expected to remain in place for the next year.

Pedestrians will still need to use the Big Four Bridge to cross back and forth between Indiana and Kentucky as the sidewalks on the Clark remain closed.

Work on the bridge was completed early due to favorable weather, but there is still a lot of construction going on in the area associated with Ohio River Bridges project.
