Live Christmas trees are gorgeous and a holiday tradition for many families. However, bringing live greenery inside your home can irritate asthma and allergies.

Dr. James Sublett, Family Asthma and Allergy, said it is not only the live Christmas greenery that irritate allergies and asthma, but the way decorations are stored and the types of material some decorations are made of can cause irritation.

Dr. Sublett said he suggests:  make sure greenery is fresh, wipe the trunk of live trees thoroughly with bleach and water, use a leaf blower to remove pollen from tree, let the tree dry completely before bringing it indoors, store decorations in plastic containers to inhibit mold growth and dust collecting on them, try to avoid using plush decorations and wear a mask when unpacking decorations.
