LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Thousands who attended Thunder Over Louisville made quite a mess on the waterfront and hundreds of volunteers came out Sunday morning to clean up the trash.

The weather was the best in several years and that added to the estimated 500,000 people who gathered to watch the spectacular show in person.

Sunday’s cleanup also marked the end of Mayor Greg Fischer’s “Give a Day Week of Service” event.

“There was a crew that started literally after the fireworks stopped. We’ve had different crews come on during the night,” Mike Berry, President and CEO of the Kentucky Derby Festival said.

Next year’s ‘Thunder’ celebration will mark 25 years since the show began.

Organizers say they’ve already begun planning and it will be even bigger than this year’s show.
