LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Dylan Mingus, 23, was caught on surveillance cameras at a Bardstown pawn shop trying to sell two bikes over the weekend. One of them belonged to Lainey Di Angelo, 8, who is in remission after being diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphona in 2011. She got her bike at a party celebrating her last session of chemo.

Police say Mingus stole her bike off the family’s front porch sometime Friday night and later tried to cash in at the E-Zee Pawn shop. Worker Mike Puckett told Mingus they weren’t accepting bikes.

“He left out of the business here and set the bikes down next to the building and took off walking up the street and my instinct just told me they didn't belong to him,” Puckett said.

He held onto the bike hoping someone would claim it. Lainey’s grandmother walked in on Sunday.

“I was determined I was going try to find it,” Joni Harrell said.

“She showed me a picture and I told her I had the bike in the back of my truck,” Puckett said.

Lainey got her bike back, but police still couldn’t find Mingus until Puckett noticed something else at the pawn shop on Thursday.

“I was sitting up there in the chair, looked out the window and I saw the guy walking up the street there and he was wearing the same clothes as the day when he came in here,” Puckett said.

Police arrested Mingus on two other theft warrants.
