Teen arraigned on murder charges after 4-month-old baby dies

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - 18-year-old Samuel Harris was charged with murder in arraignment court Friday.
 

He's charged with killing a 4-month-old boy named Aiden.  He told police he threw his girlfriends infant onto a sofa.
 

Samuel’s family gathered in Bullitt County and was brought to tears as the judge denied a request for psychiatric evaluation, increasing his bond to $1 million.
 

Harris is charged with killing Aiden after throwing the child across a room onto a broken sofa.
 

The 4-month-old was pronounced dead Friday by the county coroner.
 

He had no brain activity.
 

Aiden’s twin brother, Braiden, was checked out and is now with the state.
 

Detectives say he was also abused but they're investigating who did it and when.
 

A close family friend of the twin's mother says this case has been a nightmare.
 

"I'm glad he's being brought up on murder charges. I was glad to sit in court today. So far, they've denied any psychiatric evaluation.

He's going to get what he deserves. Whether he's on death row or gets up in jail. You know how they feel about baby killers," says family friend Heather Allen.

I feel so bad for the family of the 4 month old and I agre with the family friend, I hope that he gets everything that he deserves. Babies cry and the cry for reasons, but never to get hurt...

I am involved in this case. You all need to know that what the Media has told you is only partly correct! Sammy was only emancipated (turned 18 and released from Foster Care) 20 days ago. He moved in with his grandma Alma the day he was emancipated. His new girlfriend and her babies didn't have any where to stay, so they moved in with him and his grandma. Sammy played with those babies all the time, he cared for them and loved them. A lot of times when they would cry, he would pitch them up above his head and catch them, and they would laugh like almost every baby does when someone is playing with them. He would toss them on the couch, and they would laugh! When Alma and the babies mother went to McDonald's Sammy was there with them. They cried when their momma left. So, what did he do? He started trying to make them laugh and when he pitched Aiden on the couch, the arm of the couch was wore out and bare,and he accidently bumped his head on the arm.

When Sammy realized that Aiden wasn't breathing, he tried frantically to Resecutate him. When he realized it wasn't helping, he ran down the street screaming and crying for help!!!! Don't judge this guy! Just pray that this never happens to anyone in your family. Please make sure all of you reading this know how to perform CPR on an infant! You never know when you may need it. I pray that this never happens to any of you, but it is a good idea that you and your children know how to perform it! I won't make excuses for Sammy! Yes, he has had a horrible life, yes he grew up around drugs and abuse and was taken from his parents at age 11. The reason there are no excuses needed, is because this was a horrible accident! My whole family's heart is ripped out for Aiden!! What a horrible tragic loss of such a precious life! The truth will come out in time! Mothers/fathers please advise your sons not to live with a woman who has kids. If anything ever happens he will be blamed!

So the new defense is that he loved and played with the baby to death. The fact of the matter is that he was the only one with the two babies and now one is dead and the other has signs of abuse. It doesn't matter his age or what situation he came from, you don't hurt children, PERIOD. I can only hope and pray that the mother didn't know any of this was going on but sadly in most cases they do and choose the man (coward) over their children. Hopefully the court system will work this time and he gets what he deserves and no one elses children are hurt by this man (coward).
