LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Students and faculty from the University of Louisville, Ball State and the University of Kentucky unveiled a clean-energy project during their open house.

The Phoenix House is a solar-powered house built by Team Kentuckiana.

Team Kentuckiana is among 20 that qualified internationally to design, build and exhibit the solar-powered homes in the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2013 Solar Decathlon.

The home is meant to be a sustainable, permanent housing solution after natural disasters.

The team chose the design after last spring’s tornado damage in Kentuckiana.

The team and the solar-powered house will soon leave for California to take part in the international competition.
