LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A guilty plea was expected Monday afternoon for the man charged with stealing from the charity he founded.
Everyone, including prosecutors, expected him to plead guilty to stealing $180,000 from USA Harvest. Instead a judge ordered a mental health evaluation to make sure he is competent to enter a plea.
Stan Curtis was no longer in a wheelchair and used a cane to walk into the federal courthouse Monday afternoon, appearing in slightly better health.
Curtis fell ill shortly after the federal charges came down last September but his attorney says he has been doing much better in recent weeks.
Curtis will be back in court in May.
