LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 19, 2012) – Construction is scheduled to begin this week on roadway improvements at the interchange of Interstate 264 (the Watterson Expressway) and US 42. As part of the project, a slip ramp will be built on the exit ramp from eastbound I-264 to Brownsboro Road.
“Construction of this slip ramp will allow for direct access to Brownsboro Road from the Watterson Expressway,” said Matt Bullock, chief district engineer for Department of Highways District 5, in Louisville. “Motorists will be able to bypass the intersection at US 42 which is heavily congested during peak hours.”
Other project improvements include construction of an additional left turn lane on the ramp from eastbound I-264 to US 42 and widening of Brownsboro Road between US 42 and the Dairy Queen (see map below). New signage and two new overhead sign trusses will also be installed.
Gohmann Construction Inc. of Clarksville, Ind., was awarded the $1.83 million contract for the project by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The first phase of construction is the widening of Brownsboro Road from three lanes to five lanes. This work is scheduled to begin later this week and motorists can expect shoulder closures and delays.
Brownsboro Road will be closed for ten days beginning in late July to allow for intersection realignment and paving. Dates for this work will be provided based upon weather and construction progress.
All work is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 1, 2012. Actual starting date and duration of work are subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
